10 Questions for Studio Lead and Creative Director Jen Lemerand

Get to know Jen Lemerand, a singer-songwriter and our Studio Lead and Creative Director:

1. Where did you grow up, and where do you live now?

I grew up in Cary, Illinois, then lived in Chicago for 23 years. I recently moved to Bentonville, Akansas — the Natural State!  

2. How long have you been at Glantz?

7 years

3. How did you become interested in design?

I was one of the kids that was at the playground coloring or drawing. I loved art as a kid. When I was in high school, I didn’t know what design was so I would always say I wanted to be in advertising. In college, I started doing art programs and the design program. I realized, “That’s what I meant when I said I was going to do advertising!”

4. What would you say to the younger version of yourself?

I’d tell myself, “I’ve got this,” and, “Don’t be scared of the unknown.” 

5. If you weren’t a ____, you’d be a _____?

If I wasn’t a designer, I would have been a musician. 

6. What are some of your hobbies?

I like to go on bike rides, and I make music and write my own songs on the guitar. I also love going to a dog park and training my dog, Kylo.

7. What’s your favorite song?

The Chain by Fleetwood Mac. 

8. What has been the most valuable advice you’ve gotten? 

Try not to take things so personally, but also recognize when to stand up for yourself. It’s important to set boundaries in any role.

9. What makes a good leader? 

To me, a good leader is to be someone who doesn’t think of their role as management but as bringing up the people on the team they are working — and becoming better with them. 

10. Favorite part of your job?

The variety. There’s something different almost everyday whether it’s the types of projects we’re working on, the industries and clientele, or the overall look or approach we’re taking. It keeps me excited because we’re always trying to best our last project and get better.
